What to Expect

The journey from Kampala to Bwindi takes approximately 8-10 hours depending on your sector:

  • Kampala to Buhoma: ~540km (9-10 hours)
  • Kampala to Ruhija: ~470km (8-9 hours)
  • Kampala to Rushaga/Nkuringo: ~510km (9-10 hours)

We recommend breaking up the journey with overnight stops

Charter flights are available from Entebbe or Kajjansi to airstrips near Bwindi:

How far in advance should you book?

Gorilla permits often sell out 6-12 months in advance for peak seasons. We recommend booking at least 9 months ahead for June-August and December-January visits. For other times, 3-6 months in advance is usually sufficient. Last-minute bookings are occasionally possible but risky.
